Interview with Angela Wallace

What are you working on next?
I'm working on a very exciting collaboration to adapt my book, Dreamwalker, to screenplay. Being involved in the writing process means not only learning a new medium for storytelling, but gives me the opportunity to explore some alternate options from the original. It'll be thrilling to see it on the big screen some day!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
In addition to being an author, I also have a career as a sign language interpreter. My work is in educational settings, which means I get to learn all kinds of new and interesting things without having to take tests. And I'll often take what I learn and put things into my books!
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. The way she structured her books with varying female protagonists was the inspiration behind how I set up my Elemental Magic series. I'm also a huge fan of Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson series, Cassandra Clare, and Richelle Mead.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, and I still have a copy of it somewhere, from way back in 4th grade. It's about ten pages long, which at that young age, felt as though I'd completed an entire novel.
What is your writing process?
I am a devout plotter and outline my stories before writing them, usually with pen and paper to start. I'm a jigsaw puzzle person, which I guess translates into my writing because I like to know exactly what every piece is and how they all fit together. It saves me the headache of unexpected plot holes two-thirds of the way into a story. Oh, and I color code.
