Interview with Alexie Linn

How do you approach cover design?
I examine the picture in my head of the situation the book is about. I ask what I would expect a cover to convey and go on a scavenger hunt to find the treasure.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason Series will be three of the five. I read them all at least once.
Nero Wolf will be one of the five.
Louisiana Longshot is the fifth of what I can think of right now.
These all have commonalities:
1. They're well written mysteries
2. They're cozy mysteries -- blood, guts, gore, and sexuality are PG-13
3. They all offer action, adventure, and mind work.
What do you read for pleasure?
Whodunnits usually.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle.
Describe your desk
It's the table in my RV. It gets crowded and moves often.
When did you first start writing?
Probably when I was about 8 years old, swinging in the hammock and telling stories to any unsuspecting cat who wanted the ride.
What's the story behind your latest book?
An overstuffed closet.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An end to attempting to outguess what is 'in' this season with the big five.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Broad coverage! One stop delivery and shop. WooHoo!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Letting my alter egos learn and grow and become who they are.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! I and my alter egos are nothing without our fans.
What are you working on next?
Tentative 'Rescue Me'. About human smuggling, tossed out pets, and bones.

Nope! Guess again. This is not a book of recipes for sourdough. Neither is it a book on a new fad diet. It is, instead, a book about sourdough – what it is, who it's for, where it lives, how to create it, when it was discovered, and why we need it.

Two women lay sprawled in front of my truck. They are very dead. Queenie sits like a statue on the passenger side of my vintage Chevy pick-up looking like the circus fat lady that she thinks she is – but she's not laughing. While this could be a wearisome story of murder and mayhem, it isn't. It's the story of how one woman's life changing personal transformation had a ripple effect....

I think the second body – the dead one – was a tad overkill to trigger Max into personal growth, expanding horizons, and his own success mindset, it worked – and I'm still here to tell you about it. A cozy mystery set in the desert southwest that started as two women on an adventure. Then came corruption, murder and mayhem, followed by life beyond biscotti – all from a bump on the head

Joan is slammed in the face with olfactory overload – a stench she's never before encountered – she fears she's gotten herself into – besides a client with a really bad sinus infection and even more very puzzling people – more than even she can handle. Who abandoned who? Can the source of Elaine's grief be identified and turned into good grief before Joan is forced to escape?
