Interview with Alyson Serena Stone

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well, I am still fairly new to publishing on Smashwords. I will say that Smashwords has been on of the easiest writing sites to join. It gave me the courage to try self-publishing, which I say is enough.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing to me is getting my stories out and seeing my characters come to life. I really enjoy building and exploring new words, as well as going places that no one has been before. I like how it allows me get out of the real world for a minute or hour and go to someplace new.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love getting reviews and favourites. I have been writing for since 2010 and since 2011. I love seeing how people actually not only read what I write, but actually like it. I love getting suggestions on how to improve.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on Storytime, a squeal to Once, as well a retelling of Alice in Wonderland.
Who are your favorite authors?
There's so many! I would have to say J.K Rowling, Sarah J. Maas, Morgan Matson, Sarah Dessen, and Laura Ingalls top out my list. I do read more than those though.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well, whenever I wake up, Ryanon, Once's main character, is waiting for her adventure to begin.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I also teach. I also write reviews for fellow authors and I also read a lot. I enjoy watching TV and listening to music.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I'm not going to lie. A lot of the ebooks that I've read, were either free or bored from the library. I also received recommendations from Goodreads or my friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was when I was about seven or so. It was really hot outside and I wrote this picture book about the sun exploding because that's what it felt like it did. I still have it somewhere...I think...
What is your writing process?
I usually dream up my stories well in advance before I actually write them. I watch documentaries and read a lot of books to get the world feeling just right. Then, I just start writing. I do write from beginning to end and usually don't change the order. Afterwards, I have a lot of editing and fixing to do.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, not really.
How do you approach cover design?
I used Canva, which is free. I typed in what kind of a picture I wanted and went from there.
