Interview with Amanda Chu

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing is getting to create new worlds. Since I focus on fantasy, I can make them as unusual and magical as I want to. I particularly enjoy creating enchanted forests and elegant, rich castles.
What are you working on next?
I have just finished the first book in the Chrystacia series. At the moment, I am working on the second. Where the first sets a foundation to a mystical world, the characters and their relationships, the second digs a bit deeper into the lore of this world and the difficulties that arise when putting these different personalities together.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Writing has always been a hobby of mine. When I was younger, I would write up short stories and share them with friends. The first long story I wrote was the Legend of Chrystacia. Believe it or not, I wrote out the whole book by hand. I didn't publish it though. Fast forward a decade and my mind settled once again on this story. Unfortunately, I couldn't find where I put it so I decided to redo the whole story from scratch. I'm happy with the outcome, it became something I could be proud of.
What is your writing process?
I don't have much of a writing process, usually I just wake up, turn on my computer and start writing. I do know where the story starts and how it ends, but as for the events in the middle, I make them up as inspiration hits me. If I come across a little bump, I put on some good tunes and let my mind roam. So far, it's been working for me.
Describe your desk
Very messy. I have books all over. I have a bookshelf, but it's overflowing. They're varied as well. I have everything from language learning books, medical textbooks to fantasy novels. I also keep pictures of friends and family and my backboard contains little words of encouragement from friends and family that stop by.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love writing and want to share my stories with everyone. There is something special about others being able to see the world through your eyes. I also want people to fall in love with the characters that I have created. I sure fell in love with them.
