Interview with Amanda Steel

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
From indie authors who I follow on Facebook, email subscription sites such as Bookbub or just general word of mouth from other writers and/or readers.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was about 7 and it was some weird version of the three little pigs.
What is your writing process?
I usually get a nagging idea and have to start writing it, then I just keep writing and worry about editing afterwards. I often have a few writing projects on the go and edit at least one while writing at least one other.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The tiger that came to tea, it made me wish we could have a tiger come and eat all our food, so that we would have to go out to eat.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to think about what the book is about and what kind of cover could relate to the plot.
What do you read for pleasure?
Horror and fantasy. I've recently starting reading The Walking Dead comic books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Running a giveaway on Goodreads
Describe your desk
Messy, but I know where everything is
When did you first start writing?
I've always written since I was a young child, but only started to pursue it as a career a few years ago.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is short novel about Zombies. I wrote it as a birthday present for my sister, who loves all things zombie as much as I do. I enjoy watching TV shows like Walking Dead and I see how those characters have had to change in order to survive, but I wanted to explore what it would be like for people to survive an outbreak and then have to face up to what they had gone through and the things they had to do.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After numerous rejections, I decided I could keep trying and maybe wait years or I could do it myself right now.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love telling stories and creating characters who grow on me and make me want to write more about them.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on sequels to "While I was gone" and "Captivated"
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Having a lot of writing and studying to do and knowing that it won't do itself.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, listening to music, going to the cinema and exercising on my treadmill and exercise bike.
