Interview with Amber Ross

How do you approach cover design?
I find cover designs to be difficult having just tackled my first one for Hunt For Love. I think I'd have thrown the laptop across the room if it hadn't been for my very patient wife helping me.
What do you read for pleasure?
For please I do enjoy reading Biographies, the occasional Archie comic, anything by Tess Gerritsen or Dan Brown
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My IPhone that's for sure as sad as it is that technology has weened its way into every facet of life I find it difficult with out my phone especially as I'm a big reader, especially right before bed I have a stack of books beside me and when I've smacked myself in the face a few times after nodding off I know it's time to switch to wreaking until I finally pass out!
Describe your desk
My desk is a little unconventional I have two really ones a 200 by 200 cm bed where I begin writing or brainstorming and then the second is the black leather sofa where I occasionally look through my brainstorms or early dribbles and think what the hell? But the couch is where I get most of my work done at the moment. And if I get some decent profits I might just treat myself to a lap try for my laptop
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The joy of writing is the freedom I feel. It's the same as the great joy of reading for me is being lost in a story the kind where you can really picture yourself inside of it. I'm not sure if I'm able to capture people that way yet I am however working towards becoming a better writer
Who are your favorite authors?
Without a doubt Tess Gerritsen, Dan Brown, Sarah Waters, Giselle Fox
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Usually it's the toddler crying out in the room next door, the rest of the week it's the alarm clock that goes off, but I enjoy my "real" job even if there are a few early mornings or late nights. But I love spending time with my wife and our son
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
The usual way most people do family, work, watch a bit of TV, play the odd game on various devices, cooking. My days are fairly routine so I have the task of trying to find the time to write when I can usually during nap time.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I start by reading the description or the sample and if I like that I will look for other books by the same author then I take into consideration the suggestion based on previous reads
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My 5 favourite books this year have been And in no particular order

1) Wildflower - Drew Barrymore
2) Spectacles - Sue Perkins
3) From Here to Maternity - Mel Giedroyc
And the last two I haven't read yet but I know they'll be in my top 5 for the year
4) I Know a Secret - Tess Gerritsen
5) origin - Dan Brown
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small but beautiful town in Canada, where I grew up may feature in a book I'm currently working on I just hope that I can paint the pictures of it as I remember them in my head I have endless tales from home but have to change a few names and that to protect a few people myself included on an instance or two ;)
