Interview with Amelia Faulkner

Published 2017-06-02.
Describe your desk
Ah IKEA, desk-provider of champions! I have an ALEX drawer unit full of rubbish, a desktop covered in rubbish, and when I installed it all a few months ago it was so beautiful and neat...
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love Jordan L. Hawk's Whyborne & Griffin series for their Cthulhu mythos, excellent pacing, and tremendous characters.

I'm also a big fan of KJ Charles, particularly the Magpie Lord series, and I can't wait for her new Paranormal series in 2017!

(Shh, that's over ten books already!)
How do you approach cover design?
I approach my cover designer and give her free reign. Fortunately she's also one of my alpha readers, so she knows exactly what the book's about before she does the cover!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well if I don't walk the dog, she'll just make ever-increasingly cute noises, then bite my nose...
What is your writing process?
Step 1: Set myself a deadline.
Step 2: Stare into space for approximately two months.
Step 3: BLIND PANIC.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read (of course), dabble in photography, walk the dog, and occasionally go to the cinema. I also enjoy travel, and will drop everything to get on an aircraft if the option's available. Finally I'm addicted to board games, pen & paper RPGs, and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance!
