Interview with Andy Merrick

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Mostly I have to go to work at the local factory just the same as anyone else really. but To relax I love nothing better than a good Barbeque with family and freinds or a good horror and I am a big fan of the B&W classics.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Generally I already know what I want to read so I just look them up Right now I have the Invisible Man on my phone.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes I do, I was about 6 or 7 and I wrote a story about a professor who shot down an alien space ship and ended up making freinds with the robot pilot and helped him repair the ship.
What is your writing process?
I try to write as fast as it comes out, just like I am talking to you, then read it through and change it at the end of the day, week, month or chapter as I get to a natural break. Let it stew for a while then read it like I am at the cinema, if I cant see the story playing out like a movie then I have'nt considered the reader.

The story tells itself, dont force it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I didn't read my first book until I was 30 years old, I had mostly only Picked up reference material fo stuff I was interested in. I spent my early years at war with the inability to read and write mostly beacause I couldn't read or write very quickly. I had, what I believed to be, a very well developed conversational vocabulary, thanks to my perants, and really enjoyed words.
How do you approach cover design?
I knew what I wanted and hired Spiffing covers to create it for me.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Gothic horror classics without doubt. The author's voices are so different to the pulp we have today it's as if every word is considered and relevent, many single words are descoveries in their own right, not just because they aren't usually heard today but their context and use can be surprising. The way the characters interact is so different to today, the politeness, the respectfulness and the utter non existance of the current trend for petty political correctness.
What do you read for pleasure?
I have a small Library left by my late father.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
smart phone
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Just starting out so don't have an opinion yet.
Describe your desk
Full... Really full, not everything is useful.
