Interview with Anderson Michaels

Published 2014-03-13.
Who are your favorite authors?
There have been so many. I guess if I had to pick the ones that grabbed me early on, they would have to be Tolkien, Frank Herbert, C.S. Lewis and all of the old-school science fiction guys. There was just something about where I came from that made other worlds of imagination resonate with me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Every day is a brand-new chance to take a shot at something great. Who wouldn't want to participate in that? It doesn't hurt that we have cats and dogs and a kid to get off to school!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
We've got an old place that was left to us by my father-in-law that I work on most days. It's a cute 40's-era cabin that just about needed to knocked down when we started, but I just can't give up on the old girl like that. If I'm not hunched over a keyboard then I've got a tool belt strapped on trying to remember which way a 45 degree cut has to go.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Half of the time through friends and other authors. The other half are recommendations from my daughter of a cover that grabs me.while I'm poking around the newly released lists.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Sure. It was about my grandmother's garage. That place was packed to the rafters and my story was about finding an orb buried at the bottom that transported you who know's where. A bit of an "All Mimsy Were the Borogroves" rip-off, if I had to honest.
