Interview with Andrea B Lamoureux

Who are your favorite authors?
I have a lot of favourite authors. I guess if I had to choose, my top three would be Jacqueline Carey, Anne Bishop, and Morgan Rhodes.
What do you read for pleasure?
I mostly read fantasy as it's my favourite genre. Sometimes I will read historical romance too. A lot of the books I read tend to be Young Adult.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I'm either working as a cosmetician, listening to music, eating or reading. I put eating because I love food!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover a lot of ebooks on the recommendation on my kindle. Sometimes I just browse similar books to ones I've liked though.
What is your writing process?
I don't really have a process. I write an outline and character list and then I just kind of see where that takes me. Sometimes characters take me off the path I mapped out, but that's okay. It makes things more interesting that way.
How do you approach cover design?
I found my cover artist by browsing artists Facebook pages. I tell her what I want and she designs a picture for me, which I either approve or ask her to make changes to.
Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Besides inside my head, I get inspiration from music and other stories. When I read a really good book it inspires me to write my own. Music, especially instrumental and medieval themed music keeps me going once I'm writing.
What are you working on next?
I am already working on book two in The Elemental Diaries series and I'm so excited to share it with readers!
Describe your desk
My desk is kinda small. It's black with one drawer. Maybe one day I'll get an upgrade, but this works for now.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up as an only child in the country in western Canada. I believe this helped grow my imagination. I was always making up stories in my head when I was cleaning out horse stalls.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I decided to self-publish after I talked online with another self-published author. I loved her books and was thrilled when we connected and she answered my questions. She really inspired me to take the route I did.
Also, when I went to the writers convention in my city I learned a lot about self-publishing. It was another push I had in this direction. I love having creative freedom.
