Interview with Annie Rose Welch

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Actually, I use my Kindle App on my phone. I haven't totally been converted to a bonafide e-reader yet.
Describe your desk
It is my little writing oasis. It is wide and cherry colored, and where I go to escape into all those worlds I try to bring to life.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Big Easy, The City that Care Forgot, New Orleans. And apart from my family and everyday life occurrences that have formed me into who I am, New Orleans is one of the biggest influences in my writing, in my life. This has been said many times before, but there is no place like New Orleans. The culture, the people, the food, the history is unlike any in the world. I feel blessed and honored to have grown up in such a place that, to this very day, never leaves me.
When did you first start writing?
My writing career began one sleepless night when I imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above me like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in my head, I sat down and penned (typed) my first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for me, I haven't stopped writing since.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book, Red Dirt Road, belongs to the Saving Angels Series. Even though it follows a different set of characters and circumstances, the roads of the Saving Angels series will meet up eventually.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Although I'm realizing just how time consuming marketing can be, I love the idea of being in control of my career. As much as one can be. It's freeing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love getting lost-- I love sitting down at my desk and never knowing which way my characters are going to take me. I love not knowing where their journeys are going to go, or how they're going to end. I love discovering my characters-- what makes them tick, what brings them to life on the page. It's a beautiful, mysterious, magical thing.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love (imagine those words in caps and italicized) connecting with readers. I especially love when they tell me how my stories made a difference, and how much they love certain characters.
What are you working on next?
At the moment I'm working on edits for the third book in the Saving Angels Series, Lotus Blossom Lane. I'm currently lost in the far off emerald cliffs of Ireland.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have quite a few. One of my top favorites is Richard Matheson. I think he was a master of his craft. He had the ability to tell two different stories through one. Depending on how you perceived his words was the story you were left to ponder.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God. My family. My writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Not writing? Is there such a thing? It's a rarity, because even when I'm not writing, I'm always plotting. But when I'm out with my family, I try to focus on family time. And I also have a passion for photography; photography and music.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
It depends. Sometimes I stumble across real gems that I would have never found by chance. Other times, a family member or friend recommends it to me.
What is your writing process?
I write by the seat of my pants. I allow the story and the characters to lead me wherever they want me to go. Hopefully staying true to them and their stories.
