Interview with Angela Flowers

What do you read for pleasure?
Honestly, it depends on my mood when I choose a book to read. I guess if I had to pick one favorite genre, it would be romance. Sometimes contemporary romance and sometimes paranormal romance. I also read a lot of teen fiction.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle.
Describe your desk
My desk ... hmm. I don't really have an official desk. I homeschool my sons, so they've taken over both desks in the house. Most of the time I write while sitting on my couch. I also like to sit outside by my pool or sit at my dining room table. When I'm tired of sitting, I will stand at the counter in the kitchen.
When did you first start writing?
I'm pretty sure I started writing simple stories as soon as I could hold a pencil. Most of my first stories started as simple child drawings. Once I learned how to write words, there was no stopping me. I even majored in Creative Writing in college.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Silver Linings first started out as a fan fiction piece and grew from there. The characters evolved and took on their own personalities.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, listening to music, homeschooling my sons, watching TV, or spending time with friends and family.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Blogs, Facebook pages, and suggestions from friends.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My characters. I love creating characters and watching as they evolve throughout the story. I especially love that moment when a character takes control of their actions. I don't think non-writers can understand this, but there's always that one scene that goes in a completely different direction than I intended. No matter how many times I rewrite it, the scene insists on going in that particular direction. In that moment, the characters take charge and says "Nope. This is the way it has to happen." While this is one of the most frustrating moments of writing, it's also the most satisfying for me.
What is your writing process?
I don't have a formal process. I find a comfortable spot, curl up with my laptop or a notebook, plug into my music, and write. Music is an extremely important part of writing for me. I always create playlists for my stories. I can't write without music.
What are you working on next?
The sequel to Silver Linings.
