Interview with Angela Kay Austin

Published 2017-11-25.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love a lot of different genres. So, it depends on my mood. My "go-to" books tend to be either SciFi or Romance. Either way you slice it I like to be pulled into a different place!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle. It's perfect for me both for books and movies. And when you add the cute little keyboard, it's pretty awesome.
Describe your desk
It moves! I have an office at home, but I love to people watch while I write. I will pull my laptop out in the middle of one of my fav restaurants and go for it!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the southern part of the United States and it shows with my writing. I think I've set a book in a lot of states where I've put down roots because of my knowledge of the local culture and norms. Which seems odd to say, I know. But, each state has it's own uniqueness, and I love to make the city/state part of the story, if I can.
When did you first start writing?
When you grow up as an awkward little kid who loved books, movies and music, you tend to try your hand at all of them. Writing was the one that stuck for me. I've been writing forever.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest short story was part of an anthology, When the Beautiful Awake: Thakathi Awakening. It is a story about a group of witches who went into hiding to survive in 1850 New Orleans.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Wanting to have the ability to write on my own schedule and write the stories that I wanted to tell.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating a new world. I don't always know how the story will end. It's a surprise to me, too. I love that part!
What do your fans mean to you?
I love when they share with me what they liked (or not). Either way, they let me know that I pulled them into my world. For a few hours or days or weeks, I captured their attention!
What are you working on next?
Paranormal. Contemporary Romance. A couple of anthologies.
Who are your favorite authors?
I feel like this list is always evolving. So, I'll just say that I love authors who pull me into their worlds. Whatever fantastical things they conjure up, I'm ready to read about them!
