Interview with Angie Walker y Fenyw

What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPad, I love my iPad!
When did you first start writing?
As a child I would write poetry, I still have some of it somewhere in a box. Usually it was about horses or nature, both big loves of mine still.

More recently because I am full of despair at the lack of common sense about food and nutrition. It doesn't make sense to me that people think their bodies are not going to rebel when they eat rubbish. Our children depend on us for their very lives when they are in the womb then when they are growing up, it is up to us as adults not to give mixed messages about food. If you choose to eat a healthy diet with your children, that will reflect in your child's overall health and growth and I hope my writing can help people make those choices that will affect their whole lives for the better.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book which should be complete in about a month is about my grandmother Florry Walker and why I believe she lived to be 101 years old. Growing up my gran would give me all kinds of advice about food, how to grow it, store it and cook it.

With my nutrition background I will be making the connections between my grans longevity and current understanding of vitamins and minerals. Again, the point of the book is to help people make educated choices about what they eat and how they eat it, hopefully adding many health filled years to their lives just like my gran. Still not sure about the title yet? "Live to 101, 7 Secrets About My Grans Long Life" what do you think?
What do your fans mean to you?
It is always a very satisfying feeling when someone has read one of my books and let's me know what a difference it has made to their life, how they had 'aha' moments and acted on them.

A book is written to be read, particularly in my situation as they are non fiction information books, it is extremely important to me that my readers enjoy the process and they let me know how their lives have been impacted for the better.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
It's a funny thing, I get excited with every new morning, just love to watch the sun rise and share in the birds dawn chorus. The fact that I have achieved silver hair and wrinkles is something to be celebrated! I have lost some beautiful people through my life, some of them very young so I am grateful for each new day that I am the right side of the grass :-)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I walk most days. My perfect day is to get up at dawn, write for a few hours, go out and walk for a couple of miles to my local park and commune with the trees, birds and squirrels. The park is called Belle Vue Park in Newport, South Wales and it a little bit of heaven in our lovely city.

We also have a fabulous place called the Wetlands which is also a favourite place to go with my other half and my grandchildren, it is a protected area for birds and wildlife.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have to admit I am a serial downloader of ebooks! Recommendations to me are always checked out and once I start looking, well, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop.

I think Smashwords is an incredible source of quality books, once I finish one there is another and another and on......
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was about 11 years of age and I worked as a groom at a country mansion in the north east of England called Normanby Hall. One of the horses had died and it affected me greatly and I found writing poetry about that horse helped me to process my feelings. That led to me writing for my own pleasure for the rest of my life.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Being a horsey person as a youngster, Black Beauty was the first story I remember reading and it shocked me. It's a powerful story about cruelty but also about love and it has given me a lifelong love for all animals, I can't stand any kind of cruelty to animals or humans.
How do you approach cover design?
Easy, pay someone who is talented to do it for me, not my area of expertise.
What do you read for pleasure?
I am a qualified teacher and a lifelong learner so read avidly. Nutritional books and business books are my favourite but I love biographies, history, natural history and my secret passion is cross stitch books ;-)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a steel town called Scunthorpe in north Lincolnshire, England. It was and still is a gritty, hard place and as a sensitive child I would retreat into my own world of fairies in the woods that were my protectors, my imagination was overactive according to my mother. I never actually wrote about them but would 'play act' my stories with my little sister.

I think because of the greyness I felt around me I always look for beauty and colour, probably why I moved to South Wales, a green and pleasant land.
