I search by a topic and I also take recommendations by friends of books they have read and enjoyed.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Since I wrote many things when I was in my teens, it would be hard to remember since I did not keep any!
What is your writing process?
Because I write poetic compositions, any events that happen during my daily life may inspire me to write!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first stories I read were 'See Jane run' in the 2nd grade! Loved 'em!
How do you approach cover design?
My first cover design was a photo my son took of a huge flower and his red tennis shoe! When I saw it, I thought "that would make a great cover!" so I used it for my first book of poetry. That started a trend where I used photos of shoes with flowers. Just because I loved the concept.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Mystery novels... Usually a series of books about a particular solver of problems detective! I recently finished reading a group of novels by William X. Kienzle. Tony Hillerman novels, Emily Brightwell Mrs. Jefferies series, Patricia Cornwell Scarpetta novels, and Lawrence Block are also favorite authors. But I am always discovering new favorites.
What do you read for pleasure?
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle device and I read from my computer using various software programs.
Describe your desk
My laptop computer is my 'desk' and I use it in my sunroom and in my living room in my recliner! I have a desktop computer on a desk which I occasionally use when 'older' software programs are needed!
When did you first start writing?
When I was in my teens, I started writing poetic compositions. But I did not share them with anyone! So all of those compositions were thrown away years ago. About four years ago I wrote a silly, funny thing and sent it to my niece on impulse. She enjoyed it so much that I sent it to a few others. That was the start of my era of compositions! And my sharing with other friends and family members.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After writing and emailing my poetic compositions/commentary to friends and family for a year, one of my friends sent me an email saying that I needed to put my compositions in a book. Seemed like a good idea so I began researching on the internet. I met with a local publication agent and I decided that what I really wanted to do was the entire process of composing, setting up, and publishing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords allows me to put my compositions out there with very little cost involved!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The expression of an idea or thought and someone's saying "yes, I know what you mean!" Bringing laughter to someone or bringing to mind something that was important in their life or their past.

The ‘Excursions in daily living’ compositions in this book were created to be used as short readings for odd moments in your daily life. Random daily events can be used to increase our understanding of how scriptures are still alive and teaching us about our spiritual nature. A quick read/study for those ‘waiting’ times in life.
Daily life events inspired Ann to write compositions about little aggravations, irritations, & catch 22’s of getting through each day. Ann then researched King James Version scriptures in the Bible to provide Bible guidance for dealing with her life events.
Free form poetry expressing Ann's view of her daily life encounters. Turtles sunning on a log, dragons in life, and a pet dog that stayed only three months are a few of the things that inspire her to write.
