Interview with Anne Hendricks

What are you working on next?
Wait! I'm about to debut! On 1.22.2016, my novel, A WOMAN'S CHOICE, will hit Smashwords! Remember, it was my 2014 NaNoWriMo winner (originally titled, But Thrice).

I'm working on my Walt Whitman story and editing my SOUTHPAW - the 2015 NaNoWriMo winner.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many - as a former librarian, that's a fun question. Simple: Charlotte Bronte!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Homeschooling my son to graduation!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Trying to pester my husband for foot rubs.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Searching for the genre of choice and friends' recommendations.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes: Anne's Monster. Don't ask.
What is your writing process?
Get an idea. Research idea. Sit. Outline. Write. Finish rough draft. Read outloud. Start editing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes: Green Eggs and Ham: obviously, I became a Seuss fan!
How do you approach cover design?
I do my own - being a short story writer, I have to do them on the cheap. How am I doing?
What are your five favorite books, and why?
5. On the Night off the Seventh Moon by Victoria Holt: made me a reader!
4. Ashes in the Wind by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss: made me want to learn more on the Civil War!
3. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee: Southern lit at the very best!
2. Charlotte's Web by EB White: because it taught me friendship
1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte: made me want to WRITE!
What do you read for pleasure?
Historical fiction. I am not a huge romance reader as I once was - probably because I am not reading what I desire to see more of: Civil War era books and Reconstruction!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Nook. It is paid for....
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am open to suggestions...
Describe your desk
Paid for, old, and cluttered with paperwork from teaching, sticky notes, and pens.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
The South - where everyone parades crazy on their front porch and we love it!
When did you first start writing?
Childhood.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Short story: Saw a poem by Clara Barton and began reading how she and Whitman were in the same area in the same week and not one comment was ever said of a friendship. I researched here and there - boom! I had a story totally fiction, but totally made sense!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Control.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It is teaching me how to do electronic publishing - and may I add: thank you.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
A finished product I enjoy.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. Thank you!
What do you love most about writing?
I like finding a period in history, finding something different, and watch it grow into a story.
