Interview with Anthony E Thorogood

Published 2017-03-16.
When did you decide to become a writer?
I have always written. As a small boy, who couldn’t read or write, I used to make up pirate stories. These stories happened in my head and as I didn’t know words or how to write them I used to make up words my teachers must have had a laugh.
What genre do you write in?
I call the books I write electric. I want my books to be alive and at the same time give the reader the feeling that they are there, that they are standing in the wings watching.
Do you put aside a special time to write each day?
I write my books inside my head and then sit down anytime and get them down on paper or the PC as is the modern way.
Who is your favorite character in your books and why?
Jack Hamma is my favorite characters possibly because he is a laid-back Australian. Jack is a bit of a rebel, he doesn’t get on well with authority, he’s fair minded and doesn’t like to jump to conclusions. He’s also a sucker for a pretty face.
How do you come up with the characters in your stories?
I get an ideas for a character or a situation from talking to people, from watching people in a café or at a market, I guess I watch and listen and absorb influences from the world.
What do your fans mean to you?
I owe my fans everything!
What are your favorite books?
The thriller 39 Steps is a favorite, I love My Family and Other Animals and two of Stevenson's novels Treasure Island and Kidnapped, Travels with my Aunt and Lucky Jim are also good, the list goes on and on,
Finally what are you writing now?
I'm writing two Jack Hamma action adventures and in the pipeline is a zany comedy Rempit Nethis.
