Interview with Aphrodite Whitley

Describe your desk
A cluttered mess with a Greek vase on it. Also lots of cookie crumbs.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the South, sort of on a farm. I think the only influence it has had is I have personal experience with being in the woods.
When did you first start writing?
I was six and sitting at my sister's computer desk and decided to open up Notepad.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh, unfortunately. It was a Sailor Moon romance fanfiction. I actually still remember the plot, too. Sailor Moon was kidnapped and the other Scouts had to find her but ended up discovering their princes along the way. The princes turned out to be evil.
What is your writing process?
I don't have one? I just sit down, spend about two hours dicking around on the internet, then write.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating a world and filling it with life.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My partner.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Usually playing D&D, a video game, or just spending time with my partner.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My tablet has a Kindle reader on it, and I find it to be the most accommodating.
What do you read for pleasure?
Fantasy, although my favorite book to come back to is The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't, actually. I don't remember reading a lot of things before Harry Potter.
