Interview with Terry Jo Brock

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Before I found Smashwords, I had been through the publishing and literary agents wheel of false hopes. Smashwords was the only one to help me produce a professional quality E book. When I began this project, it was Mark Coker himself who helped me and convinced me not to use an agent to market my book and to do it myself.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing is to share my work with others.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me. Without my fans, there would be no success of my book.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on a second book. My next book will be a Science Fiction where I will introduce a character who is a retired newspaper reporter.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are, James Patterson and Lillian Jackson Braun.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Since I am now semi-retired, not by choice, I like to stay busy. Currently I have been volunteering at the local Senior Center.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was in high school in the 60's It was a short story about a homeless man with little to no possessions. One day he is found dead and in his few possessions a Will is found. In the Will he gives things like trees and birds to society. Moral to the story, even those with nothing to give, do have things to pass on to others.
What is your writing process?
Every story begins with an idea. Then what I do is outline the idea and create the characters to tell the story. Afterward I then write the story.
How do you approach cover design?
Once again, everything starts with an idea. I try to find something that catches the eye and try to make the cover follow the story line.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like a good murder mystery. Something that keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat until the very end.
