Interview with A. Del

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I know, mostly because my mother was very proud of it, that one of my earliest stories that I read on my own was one of Shakespeare's. I feel that the earliest stories I remember reading were those of the Xanth series - one that I truly enjoyed for the puns. I really enjoyed the humor in the writing, and I feel that was a big part of me developing my own style through the years.
How do you approach cover design?
Screaming obscenities while weeping, generally. I try to find something with subjects that somewhat match those in my writing, then set it up in a way that appeals to me. If I don't like what I'm seeing on the dashboard, then it doesn't get made. I have a few friends I can ask for feedback, so it helps. Otherwise, I might never have covers from me being picky.
What do you read for pleasure?
Fantasy novels, generally. I'm also quite fond of bodice rippers and Harlequin novels.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a tablet!
Describe your desk
Exceedingly tiny, creaking with every motion I make, and covered in nail polish. It was inherited from my housemate's son when I moved in... and I'm eager to replace it!
When did you first start writing?
I was fairly young, if memory serves. I think a few of my earliest stories were when I was around ten. I really didn't get well into writing until I started to role-play, and once I found the right communities, role-play really helped me work on my creation for both characters and world design.
What do your fans mean to you?
Oh, so much. They've really been a driving force behind encouraging me to keep going, and while I do write what I do for myself, there's a definite desire to write things that they enjoy, too.
What are you working on next?
I'm outlining a few novels in the fairy tale romance genre. No guarantee that they'll be finished, but they've been ideas in my head for a long time and I think it's time they got put to paper.
Who are your favorite authors?
Oh, this is a long list. J.K. Rowling, Anne McCaffery, Piers Anthony, George R.R. Martin, Joel Rosenburg, and a whole lot more.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Talking to friends - but really, my cat is a fantastic motivator. By yowl #3 and chest pounce #4 in the morning, I'm good and ready to get up.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I primarily play FFXIV and World of Warcraft, or play around with learning to code.
