Interview with Ashley Clark

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to read, paint, draw, be outside, and cook. I'm always playing with my dog.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story i've ever written was about my friends and I. I was in sixth grade, and what I really remember is all my teachers telling me to stop, but me being the rebellious type, continued sneakily. I look back on it now, and i'm almost glad I didn't show anyone. It was pretty terrible.
What is your writing process?
I honestly don't have much of a process. My ideas come to me in dreams, or when im having a casual conversation with someone. I get this urge to write it down before I forget because otherwise I get this nervous feeling and can't sit still if I don't.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember reading a story when I was about five, and for weeks I would run around singing the song that was in it. It made me laugh and my mom just encouraged me to keep on singing it.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books are the ones that no one wants to write. What I mean by this, is that the books no one wants to write about are the touchy subjects such as abuse, depression, and other things. Being that I can relate to these books, I prefer them, and I like to write about things others don't want to, because it makes things more unique in a way.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The best part about writing is letting my imagination run free, and I can add whatever I wish.
What do your fans mean to you?
As for fans, I want everyone to be able to relate somehow to the things I write, even if its only to one sentence in two hundred pages. I love receiving feedback and encouragement from others too!
What are you working on next?
I tend to work on multiple stories at once, so who knows. It'll be whatever flies to me in the wind, I suppose.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Green, John Green, and more John Green.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Definitely my friends and family. Mainly Stefan, Macey, Tanisha, Amber, and Kim. I love you guys so much, and thank you for always being there for me! You have no idea how grateful I am for each of you. :]
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town(still currently living there), and due to some things i'd seen, it definitely inspired a lot of my stories.
