Interview with Samantha Lee

What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean THE WORLD to me. I write for them. I think about them when I am writing. I think about giving them a good product and when I feel like I miss the mark, I won't let it rest. I feel responsible to them because I want to give them my best. I adore my fans and I really think constantly about how I can create a quality reading experience for them.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy is knowing that people are reading my book and they are entertained by it. If I can provide a small escape to another time and place for someone then it is all worth it. Everyone needs a book to hide in sometimes when life gets to hard.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my "me time" writing, reading or watching Korean Drama. I adore Korean Drama. In the very near future I want to meet Ji Chang Wook. He is my favorite actor. The fighting scenes in the King Series were inspired by Korean Historical Drama's.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in MIlwaukee, Wisconsin. I am not sure that my childhood influenced my writing. It wasn't until I was older that I realized how valuable books can be to a college student short on funds. I started to use books as a way to have fun even when I didn't have funds. The phrase "let's get lost in a book," is how I found my passion of words.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing about seven years ago. However, it wasn't until last year that I actually completed my first manuscript "The Rise of The King." I wrote several books and didn't finish them because I was intimidated by the process of writing or life got in the way. I always knew this was something I wanted to do so I never stopped reading and thinking up stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The Great King is book two in the King Series. Honestly, I didn't think this book would ever happen. I thought I would suffer from the plague of procrastination and this series would never come to pass. However, it wasn't until my readers started asking me when book two was coming out that I realized how important and fulfilling writing had become to me. I enjoy reading and writing books with a strong female lead and a alpha male. I love the push and pull between two dynamic people.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Like many indie authors I got rejection after rejection but I had a book that I wrote and wanted to get out to the readers no matter what so I became an indie author. It isn't easy being an indie author but it is worth it if I have one person who is genuinely entertained by one of my books.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a new series...I don't know the series name yet but the first book is "Resist Me."
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Kresely Cole's IAD series. Hands down she motivates me to write. I also enjoy reading Suzanne Wright, Nalini Singh, Jeannie Frost, Gena Showalter, and so many others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I still work a full time job and have my twins so I get out of bed to provide for those two. What I look forward to everyday is the opportunity to write.
