Interview with T.R. Cupak

What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading contemporary romance. My favorite sub-genres include mature young adult, new adult, and erotica. Some of my favorite books include The Driven Trilogy and Unraveled by K. Bromberg, Rosemary Beach and Sea Breeze series by Abbi Glines, Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire, Until Series by Aurora Rose Reynolds, most of Colleen Hoovers books, and lets not forget Fifty Shades of Grey and The Crossfire series. Those books are what brought back my passion to read and write again.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I tend to favor my iPad mini but when I'm outdoors relaxing by the pool I take my Kindle Paperwhite. My Kindle makes reading so much more easier outside in the sun.
Describe your desk
That's a funny question since I don't really write at a desk. My desk is my lap or a table wherever I may be at a given moment. I would have to say my favorite "desk" is out by my pool. Living in the country on property provides the tranquil quiet I need to get my creative juices flowing.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and raised in the Bay Area, California. Alexa Crushed is my debut novel that takes place in areas that I've lived but I don't think where I've grown up influenced my writing. I loved telling stories as a child that evolved into writing stories as a pre-teen and teenager. English was always my favorite subject in school and my teachers encouraged my creative outlet.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in my pre-teen years and more so as a teenager. I started with short stories and poetry and wrote a couple of full length stories in my mid teen years. Sadly I lost my passion to write when I was in my twenties but I'm thankful that I didn't lose my creativity now that I near the end of my thirties. Writing is relaxing, fun and a great outlet to escape daily chaos.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When reading wasn't offering me the escape I wanted I began to journal. Shortly after I found that I wanted out of my head, not further into it so I began typing words of someone else's story and from there, Alexa Crushed was born. I had two beta readers. One who is male and hates to read anything and one who is a female that reads the same genre of books I read and now write. Both of them sang praises and offered their honest feedback. Once I told my husband, he became my biggest cheerleader and encouraged me to follow my passion.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy in writing is the escape into my creative mind and having people read my what I've created. Of course the positive reviews are encouraging but so are the not so great ones. The not so great reviews only make authors better. Believe me, we read them all and strive to write better for those who read our stories.
What do your fans mean to you?
Since I'm a new Indie author I don't have many fans yet, but the ones I have mean the world to me. There are few bloggers out there that gave me, a no name in the industry, a chance and have been supportive and absolutely fabulous.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on two books. One is a completely new series where each book will be a stand-alone but my main focus is the conclusion to Alexa's story.
Who are your favorite authors?
That's a great question. My 1-click, must have authors are K. Bromberg, Abbi Glines, Jamie McGuire, Colleen Hoover, Aurora Rose Reynolds and Sylvia Day. I enjoy reading E.L James, Suzanne Collins, Stephanie Meyer, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz.
