Interview with Avnirvana Bonovika

Published 2013-11-01.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I always wanted to be an author. The idea of writing to me is to tell a story and to create an idea. I decided to become an independent author because I wanted other people to purchase my work the instant I got it done so I remember the dream.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I have had more success with more downloads and purchases than on writing.com or some site where it's edited as well as reviewed and critiqued.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The joy of writing to me is you can create a world, no, a universe, where things that would horrify your parents can exist, your imagination runs rampant, and you have power. You can control how the reader feels. You can create Man And Woman. You can imagine anywhere and anything. At your command, the hero dies. It's in your hands. To express it, grab a pen or a pencil.
What are you working on next?
Golly, that's a good question. Chances are, the next thing I finish will be a beginner of a series. However, I work on multiple things at a time. So, you'll just have to wait and see.
Who are your favorite authors?
Edgar Allan Poe, E.B. White, Charles Addams, I am currently on Canto 18 of Dante's Inferno and will be reading Frankenstein in the near future.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I can make a difference if I do.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Listening to music, watching the world commit slow accidental suicide, working on multiple art projects-some related to my writings, patronizing animals (domestic animals), perseverating, napping, plotting another manuscript, typing manuscripts, bathing,
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I haven't had time to look I get so busy.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh, yes. Oeldio.... The only real reason I never published it was my mother hated all of it. Granted, when I wrote it, I was at the age where girls only have two things on their mind: Sex, and as Wednesday put it "homicide". I've matured a lot over the years. However, sometimes, I lament that I may be stuck at this stage.
What is your writing process?
I could explain it to you. But, then, I'd have to kill you.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No
How do you approach cover design?
I approach it this way: consider the book title, consider the theme, consider the plot, create the image, choose the font. For example, Savant's main topic is Savantism, or above average intelligence in the intellectually disabled. So, I used an image of a tetragonal pattern I colored in 8th grade.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Ripley's Believe It Or Not- They are amazing.
Guinness Book World Records- They set standards for things.
All Shel Silverstein collections- I am an author/illustrator like he was. Plus, last year, I learned how to draw with pen and ink.
The Mothman Prophecies- I've always had a thing for the paranormal.
The Pugly Duckling- I love pugs.
What do you read for pleasure?
Rage comics and memes
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Computer or IPod Touch
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Mentioning the latest publication on my blog.
Describe your desk
I write on the floor. Abandon all hope ye who enter my office.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Southwestern Pennsylvania, not far from pittsburgh. Till I was in high school, I didn't know it was not ok to ask someone what religion they were.
When did you first start writing?
Middle school
What's the story behind your latest book?
I came up with it playing with barbies one day.
