Interview with Peter Jessop

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Through websites such as Smashwords or Author's Den.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
That would be back in primary school and although the details are some what hazy I do recall that I got a B- for it. But from what I do recall it was a horror story involving all the famous movie monsters.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Again I couldn't recall the very first book I ever read. But the authors that had an impact on my reading early on were writers such as Michael Moorcock, John Wyndham, H. G. Wells, I mean the end of the war of the worlds is a stroke of genius. Of course Stephen King is another writer I read constantly, the stand is still one of my favourite books.
What do you read for pleasure?
Not any particular genre as I like all kinds of stories and pretty much read anything if its something I'm really interested in. But I also derive great pleasure from graphic novels and comics. I think that Frank Miller's Sin City are just excellent tales.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Joining websites such as authors den. Publishing a lot of short stories that allow readers to check them out and then check out the books that I've published.
Describe your desk
A mess most of the time. You knows scraps of paper with ideas or just stuff written down like a phone number or a note. It tends to build up until I'm usually forced to clean up or be buried beneath a mountain of stuff.
When did you first start writing?
Back in school. I always enjoyed English classes and it was always my most popular subject and the one I was most successful at. Writing like the love I also have for movies has just always been apart of me. I can put my finger on where exactly that love came from, other than its always been there. I think the creativity excites me more than anything else.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The book came about as over the years I've collected or came up with ideas for many stories that I have never been able to do anything with for one reason or another. So I decided to create a fantasy world to set these stories in and a character to participate in them.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
In the end the chance to get your work out there without always having to rely on a third party to achieve this. I mean there are so many people who have great ideas and stories and nobody can get to see them because you need an agent or a publisher. But e-books changes all that, allowing writers to do it all themselves and get their work out to the public.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
As I said before the creativity of writing. Of bringing character and worlds to life, of creating stories. It just inspires me when I'm doing it. Being a writer can be a hard slog and if you don't have a passion for it, well that just makes it all the more harder. I've always had a great passion for writing and success or no success that's what kept me going all this time.
