Interview with Bret Lambert

What do you read for pleasure?
Right now it's murder mysteries, but depending on my mood it could be sci-fi, westerns, historical dramas. The list goes on!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Actually, I'm something of an anachronistic curmudgeon in that I prefer books. You know, front and back covers, paper pages in between, pictures optional.
Describe your desk
Would you believe it's a cluttered kitchen table?
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Ah! Well, it just so happens that I was born in jungles of south Sumatra, Indonesia. My youth was spent there, in Tripoli, Libya, and Singapore. After a couple of years of college in northern California I joined the US Air Force for ten years, tens months, and four days (approximately). I spent time in Germany, North Dakota, Turkey, and Washington state (in that order). Afterwards, I spent some ten and a half years with a police department in west Texas in the crime lab. Yep, the whole CSI thing, and I loved it! Then it was into the world of energy, following in my father's footsteps with same company from which he retired.
My life's experiences and interests have greatly influenced the wide variety of subjects that I write about, that I share with you.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in high school and have never stopped.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing gives release to my imagination. It allows me to share all the thoughts and ideas tumbling around inside my head with you.
What are you working on next?
I have just finished the sequel to this masterpiece and am actually starting on a mystery series, a totally different genre. Told you there was all sorts of ideas tumbling around in my head.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not putting pen to paper, as it were, I am either spending my time gainfully employed or doting on my lovely wife and daughter.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover designs for all my best sellers are done by my son, and accomplished artist in his own right. We sit down, discuss the story, and the cover design materializes on paper before us, transferred from his amazing artistic imagination through his hand.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me, and I appreciate each and every one of them. I am grateful to them, allowing me to share my imagination with them. I hope that, at the end of the day, I have been able bring some enjoyment to the lives of each and every one.
