Interview with B. K. Jonas

When did you first start writing?
I have been writing since first grade. I started my first novel between eighth and ninth grade and earned several accolades for poetry and short stories in high school. But I did not start writing romance until my early twenties. After writing only academic papers for twenty years, I returned to romance writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind Fate's Rendezvous is, "What if the girl comes face-to-face with the one she's left behind, and she learns that he really is "The One"?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became motivated to become an indie author after discovering how hard it is to break into publishing following the traditional route and how easy it is to become an indie author.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has made it extremely easy to break into independent publishing. Smashwords provides examples and templates and step-by-step guidance along the way.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing allows me the opportunity to freely create whatever my heart desires.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans inspire me to develop characters and story lines that will entertain them. I look forward to building my fan base as I write future romance novels.
What are you working on next?
I have two novels in the works. One is the story of two characters from Fate's Rendezvous. The other is a romantic suspense novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
Nora Roberts is my all-time favorite romance author. Other romance favorites include Brenda Jackson, Sheryl Woods, and Sandra Brown. Contemporary favorites include Trice Hickman, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Connie Briscoe, B. B. Moore Campbell, John Grisham, and James Patterson.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, working, spending time with my children and grandchildren, I read romance novels, suspense novels, bowl and play Candy Crush.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I discover most of my ebooks by just looking through ebookstore libraries.
How do you approach cover design?
I approach cover design by trying to present a snapshot of something in the book that draws an emotional response from potential readers.
