Interview with BSM Stoneking

Published 2014-12-26.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My best friend motivated me to publish my first book. I wrote The Vampires Ange De La Mort for myself, as something to check off my bucket list. After much persuasion my best friend talked me into letting her read my novel. She is an honest, straightforward, and very blunt person. When she told me she liked it, she encouraged me to get it published. So I thought I'd take the risk and do just that. That's also when I decided to make writing a hobby. Even though I know the computer doesn't always catch similar words being used in the wrong context, like since & sense, I didn't bother hiring an editor. This was just a hobby after all. My hope was that readers could look past the miss spelled words and the punctuation errors enough to simply read the book and get sucked into the storyline itself. I began to get amazing complements on the storyline and the only negative thing anyone would say about my novel is that the spelling and punctuation needs editing. I decided then that I was going to take this to the next level and begin writing professionally, which meant I needed an editor. After a long time of searching, I found the perfect editor. She has built my confidence as an indie author and unless the perfect publishing company sweeps me off my feet, I will continue to publish my stories as an indie author. And I can promise there are many more stories to come.
Do you write full-time or part-time?
I write part-time. I have a full-time job during the day that I work 8 to 10 hours a day, five days a week.
In the mornings, I like to check my emails and respond to those following me on any of my social media websites, which usually takes a good hour and a half.
After work, if my day isn't too long, the hubby and I will go to the gym. When I get home from work or the gym, I make dinner and spend quality time with the hubby watching our favorite TV shows, snuggled up on the sofa. Unfortunately, with such a busy week, I only really get to spend time writing on the weekends. This is the sad reason why it takes so long for my books to be published. But be patient, I promise if you love my stories, you'll love what's to come.
Why did you choose BSM Stoneking as your PEN name?
The main reason I chose this name is because when readers see my first three initials the first thing I want to pop in their mind is BDSM.
Not all my stories may contain a BDSM scene, but they will all have an erotic scene so descriptive there's no way my books could ever be labeled as anything less than an ADULTS ONLY READ!
What is your goal as an author?
As an independent author the only publishing deadlines I have are the ones I set for myself. So it's my goal to publish a minimum of one novel a year. I hope to publish one or two short stories every year as well, but my novel is the biggest goal.

Secretly, I also have to admit it would be pretty awesome if I could get The Vampires Ange De La Mort or any of my other books made into a movie or a TV series. However, I'm a realist so I won't hold my breath.

Recently I was asked, "What if someone from the Adult Entertainment Industry wanted to make one of my short stories into a porno, would I let them?"
I know my short stories may have pushed past erotica into a smut read. I admit it would be hard to say no, but I would have to think about that one some more before I could give a definite answer.
What are 5 things your fans may be interested to know about you as an author?
1.) I'm a terrible speller!! Also, I frequently fail to properly use punctuation. I'm aware of this so I just want to throw that out there very first. I've been told and I truly do believe, you don't have to be good at spelling, good with punctuation, or even grammar to be a writer. You just have to have an amazing editor. And I must say, I love my editor! She wasn't easy to find. It still surprises me how many editors wouldn't touch my novel because it contains supernatural characters. It became a rude awakening when I finally did find a few editors who would accept the job of editing a supernatural novel only to turn me away because my novel is a supernatural erotica.
2.) I will often step outside of my box to try new things and meet new people. Doing so gives me new ideas to write about and I can accurately describe in detail the things I have stepped out of my box to try.
3.) Most of my ideas come to me while I'm working at my day job. I keep a journal with me so I can make notes anytime something new pops in my head. Without my journal, I'm very likely to forget my new story idea.
4.) I read a lot of different genres. Keeping an open mind to all types of genres helps me become a better writer.
5.) When it comes to reading a book then watching the movie based on that book, I'm backwards. I have to watch the movie, then read the book. Otherwise I'm yelling at the T.V. "That's not who said that. That's not where that happened. They forgot to include...." Drives me crazy!
What are 5 personal things your fans may be interested to know about you?
1.) I met my husband our sophomore year in high school. We've been inseparable since the moment we locked eyes. I love him more than the air I breathe. To me, he is the only rose in a garden full of roses without a thorn.
2.) My husband and I don't have kids. We've both agreed the only kids we want are the four-legged ones. With our busy schedules we don't get enough time alone as it is. We do love kids, just the ones we can give back. We spoil our nieces and nephews and send them back home.
3.) I like nearly all music genres. Anything from classical or jazz, to oldies and 80's hair bands, country, pop, rap, rock, even heavy metal. I guess I could call myself an eclectic. Since I love so many different genres of music I don't have a favorite song, I have many favorite songs :)
4.) Bright colors make me smile and glitter is my favorite color. (Yes, you read that right, Glitter) *giggle* (see it makes me happy just talking about it, lol.)
5.) If I could live on ice cream and still be healthy I would. Preferable mint chocolate chip. The green mint, with the shredded chocolate chips, not the chunks.
What are 3 things on your bucket list you have accomplished and what are 3 thing you would like to check off?
Three things I've Accomplished from my bucket list:
1.) Write a book
2.) See George Strait in concert
3.) Take a hot air balloon ride

Three things I would like to check off:
1.) Scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef
2.) Learn how to do aerial fitness
3.) Attend a live Price Is Right show
Are you anything like your main character Tori Lane, in The Vampires Ange De La Mort?
We are similar when it comes to falling in love hard and fast, also we both work very hard.
Other than that we are very different. I certainly didn't write Tori to match my personality.

Tori lives dangerously, has wild adventures, she's demanding, and can spend money carelessly.
I personally have to budget my money. I like to know what my day is going to consist of, so I live by a schedule and I'm very organized, sometimes to the point of O.C.D.
What are you working on next?
Currently, I'm working on a spinoff from The Vampire's Ange De La Mort: Meet The Parents, entitled, Capture's Temperance.
I'm also working on book 3 to my vampire series and a couple short stories. One of the short stories is connected to my Lena's Security short stories. If you've read my Lena stories you maybe hoping Lena's friend, Amy has a story of her own. Amy sure does have a story and I can't wait for y'all to read it!
What do your fans mean to you?
This is such a cliché answer, but I truly mean it from my heart when I say, my fans mean absolutely everything to me.
As an Indie Author my fans are the ones who do the true advertisement for me. There's no better advertisement than a great referral. Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments, amazing reviews, and for just being you! XOXOX
