Interview with Balikoowa Joshua

When did you start writing?
In 2008, God called me to write my first book.
What's the story behind your latest book or series of books?
My book is about both Christians and non-Christians who are struggling with the flesh - lying vanities - but finally experience victory in God through His Word. The book explores the truth that true life - joy, blessings, hope, wealth, satisfaction, contentment, love, and peace - are found in God alone and nothing or no one else. It heightens the importance of seeking to have a firm relationship with God as the only avenue of living a fulfilled life here on Earth and in Heaven.
What motivated you to become a published author?
The guidance of the Lord through the Holy Spirit led me to write a book and become a published author. I vividly remember the accident of early March 2010 that nearly left me dead. During that time, I was praying to God to heal my broken knee on my left leg. It took me a year and a couple of months to be made whole. It was a time of spiritual refreshment and God taught me to trust Him with all of my life. Through the teaching of the Holy Spirit and study of God's Word, I discovered that true life is in Him. I was encouraged to write and share the truths I learned in God Word with other brothers and sisters across the world. I see to see others transformed by the full gospel.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy comes from those moments when someone looks me straight in the face or writes me a message saying that they have been touched by God's Word through me. When they are experiencing Christ's total victory and are going through transformation, it is my delight that what the Lord has called me to do is changing lives around the world. A life changed by gospel truth makes me smile each day of my life.
What do your fans/followers mean to you?
My followers mean a great deal to me. No one can accomplish any eternal legacy by themselves. We all need a support group (a team). Without a following, my literary work would not have seen the great reviews it has received. I have been encouraged so much in the Lord. I have been empowered to keep going on, doing what God has called me to do. We need each other. Without a team, I can't do what I am called to do. A purpose is fulfilled with a team.
What are you working on next?
I am working on another book called "Overcoming Fear". In that book, I will teach Christians and encourage them that they shouldn't fear. Even when they are going through struggles and trials of every kind, God loves them. The book will assure readers that they are (or can be) victorious in EVERY area of their lives.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Dr. Myles Munroe, Andrew Wommack, Angela Edwards, Joyce Meyer, C. S. Lewis, A.W. Tozer, and Paul Young.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Looking at the dying world, fatherless children on the streets of urban cities, abused people, corrupt governments, a sick church, and all the struggles around the world with Satan behind all forces of corruption inspires me to get out of my bed each day and purposefully stand out and do something to transform lives.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your "free" time?
I enjoy reading and studying God's Word, praying, and going for walks. I also love to spend my free time with family and friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote? If so, what was it titled and what was it about?
The first story I can remember is from when I was in high school. I wrote a story about the bees which often collected nectar from flowers in our neighbor's compound.
What is your writing process?
It's all about God leading me to write. I write about what the Lord has done in my life and encourage others to trust Him!
Do you remember the first story you ever read? If so, what impact did it have on who you are today as an author?
I know it was Paul Young's novel, "The Shack". His story encouraged me to focus on the Lord. It pushed me to seek an unconditional love and relationship with God. I saw the work of God in that novel.
Describe your desk or preferred writing atmosphere.
I like writing in a quiet place, alone, with pen, pieces of paper, cup of tea, and popcorn or groundnuts.
How did where you grew up influence your writing?
I am a Bible College graduate. I come from a Christian home and grew up studying God's Word with my parents who are ministers of God. Hence, when the Lord stirred me up to write, I did just that!
Do you prefer eBooks or print? Why?
I love both because the message is received from anywhere and any source!
How would you describe your individual writing style?
My personal writing style is that of transparency. If I must talk about what the word of God has done to my failures and struggles, it can be used to encourage and build another to trust in God.
