Interview with Beth Nash

When did you first start writing?
I first started to write after I sustained a hemorrhagic stroke. I actually didn't start working on my essay in earnest until 9 years into my recovery. This essay talks about all the aspects that I went through - from not talking (I was silent for the first 5 months) to all the surgeries that I went through and all the different therapies I got involved in. These therapies included physical, occupational, and speech. I have gone to a psychologist and a psychiatrist for the past 3 and a half years.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I felt that my words might affect any person who has had similar experiences.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am hoping that my essay is read by a wide audience. Though I now I probably will never publish in a magazine or periodical this is still a forum that is relevant.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing for me is an outlet that helps me feel that I matter.
What do your fans mean to you?
I wouldn't consider anyone who read my essay as a fan per say.
What are you working on next?
I don't plan on any new writing until this piece is published.
How has my life changed from this experiance?
I do feel that the course that I had been hoping to pursue was taken away on the 29th of July 2003. I feel more than ever that all of our lives are fleeting and every day we live we should appreciate it because it might be your last day on earth.
