Interview with Beverly Starr

What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device of choice is Kindle. I enjoy the way it keeps track of where I left off, the ability to add notes and the format.
Describe your desk
My desk has two laptops ... A Mac Air and a huge monitor. There is a lamp on top, my legal pads ,a pen basket, one pull off notepad, three pics in frames which are Bette Davis, my family with their children.Needless to say I have two mice which I find very helpful in browsing around the sites. My wrist bar is something I cannot live without as it gives me the support and the comfort to not tire as I write. My desk is a tranquil place with many little nooks and crannies for long days and nights of writing.
When did you first start writing?
At the age of seven I started to write poetry. Of course I wrote nightly in my diary. I also made all my own greeting cards.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind Waters of Life is quite simple. I recently reconnected with my first love and through our correspondence the idea came to me to write about what happens after a sixty plus year gap between two people. Of course, I added my own flair with my usual twists and turns.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The venue is a lot easier to get one published. No fear of rejection either as the indie author has freedom to publish what she / he wants. I have developed a very wonderful audience thanks to indie publishing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy is expressing my ideas and formulating them into a book and reaching out to avid readers with my books.
What do your fans mean to you?
The fans mean everything. If not for them, there would be no one to read my books nor anyone to criticize or praise. I take their suggestions quite seriously.
What are you working on next?
The second book to Laura-Lee Livingston... Female sleuth and poker player. This is called Two Pair.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The ideas that came to me in dreams during the night must be incorporated into my books somewhere. I usually have three books being written at one time.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Seriously I love to play black jack and the slots. That is my outlet from the computer. I really enjoy it!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes the first story was about a young girl who fell in love while living in New York City. She had a little orange tree that sat on the windowsill of her kitchen window. As luck would have it . . . the tree never bore fruit. Her boyfriend was offered a job transfer to California and as she struggled to make the decision to leave her happy home and happy job, her little tree started to bear fruit. She assumed this was a sign to move across country. The piece was titled "Oranges Grow in California Don't They?" I actually was paid fifty dollars for the publication.
