Interview with Bobbie Cole

What is your e-reading device of choice?
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word of mouth!
Describe your desk
Messy!!! I use 2-3 laptops at any given time. Think Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born fifth living generation on one side, fourth on the other. The 14 grandparents (counting the greats, et al) were an endless source of information and interest for me. All Midwesterners, but their parents and grandparents were primarily from the South and Northeast. So a mega variety of recipes, games, customs, and cultural differences offered. I loved my childhood! Several artists in the family, musicians, farmers, inventors, and a mix of outlaws and ministers.
When did you first start writing?
From the time I could hold a pencil.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A PETA spokesperson is sent a fur coat then hounded by the paparazzi. It's Christmastime, and while she and one of the photographers she despises avoid danger, they learn to trust one another.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Freedom to write what I enjoy and to choose my own covers. *giggle* Don't get me wrong, I love my other publishers! But it's nice to take charge now and then.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
We are about to find out! BELIEVE IN ME is my first Indie effort.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Having someone else say my work made a difference somehow. Made them laugh or cry, entertained or educated them. Made them think.
What do your fans mean to you?
EVERYTHING nice and beautiful. I'm that tree falling in the forest. Without them, who would hear?
What are you working on next?
Women's fiction and Native American mysteries. I love stories of female bonding, and I'm Creek and Cherokee.
Who are your favorite authors?
Oh, boy. Stephen King, Karin Slaughter, Sally Berneathy, Alfie Thompson, Zane Grey, Janet Evanovich and scores of others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family, pets, and profession.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Traveling! Recently spent 3 months in Hawaii and Australia with Alexis Fleming...funny, funny author.
Published 2014-12-20.
