Interview with Bonnie Synclaire

Published 2023-02-01.
What are you working on next?
As of now (2023 Quarter 1), I just published ROGUE/INCOGNITO's revamp in ebook and paperback! When I'm not busy with schoolwork, I'm writing the first installment in my brand new series, FBI: CRIMINAL PROFILERS, and outlining other books that will debut in 2023 and 2024.

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am currently a junior in college, so my free time is very limited, but I prioritize my writing along with my education so I can continue to produce more books. I've also danced for a hobby for 14 years and dance for my university. I also love binging drama TV shows, and reading any thriller or suspense I can get my hands on.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was four years old, and it was called The Girl and the Cat, written and illustrated in a yellow Staples notebook. I still have it today.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story I ever read, but I remember the middle grade genre was what impacted me the most as a kid and that genre is what made me the voracious reader I am today. I believe the contemporary/realistic fiction genres are so important, especially for adolescents, and that's why I write them.
How do you approach cover design?
The truth is: we all judge a book by its cover. What I aim for is quality and out-of-the-box creativity, without the cover being too overwhelming.
What do you read for pleasure?
Thrillers, romantic suspense, romance, urban fiction.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing stories as soon as I learned to hold a pencil. Writing has always been a part of me.
What's the story behind your latest book?
ROGUE follows twin rookie CIA agents, Harper and Beatriz, as they search for clues to prove their mother's innocence, who is a master spy produced by their estranged grandfather's CIA-funded agency, Genesis, and stole a valuable blueprint to a military-grade vehicle. This is perfect for fans of The Bourne Identity, Spectre, Mission: Impossible, and The 355.
What motivated you to become a self-published/indie author?
There is not enough diversity in traditionally published books, and I already knew that industry was crazy competitive and took years to even get looked at. I also loved how indie authors can be in control of their stories and the amazing communities that have been built.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating worlds, characters, plots, conflicts...everything. I cannot explain how happy writing makes me feel.
Who are your favorite authors?
Juno Rushdan, Caridad Peneiro, Suzanne Brockmann, Ashley Antoinette & JaQuavis Coleman, Suzanne Brockman, Susan Sleeman, DiAnn Mills, Sandra Brown, Dee Henderson, Lynette Eason, Catherine Coulter & JT Ellison.
