Interview with Brody Magdalene

When did you first start writing?
I started writing in March 2015
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book 'ONE' is about the interesting events in my life that have led me to have an amazing level of understanding about how our universe and everything in it works. I decided to share this information so as to give people an understanding and to answer questions we all ask at some point in our lives, like what is God, what is Déjà Vu, why we die, how time exists, what are dreams along with many more subjects.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My motivation for becoming an author was to share my knowledge, and also in the future it will allow me to use my creative skills for writing fiction. Although, let's be clear, ONE is non-fiction in it's entirety.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me, is being able to share my knowledge with people in a very personal way. Also completing a book and everything that goes along with it gives me a feeling of accomplishment.
What do your fans mean to you?
I would not consider people who read my work to be fans. I would say that those who read my work and get something from it, mean a lot more to me than classing people as fans, I am not trying to make myself feel superior by thinking that my readers are fans.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on a fictional story, with a co-writer, Hermione West, that is set in this time and many years in the future simultaneously. Following the journey the main character will be taken on, they will start to see the unbelievable truth about time and reality, what is really happening in reality and how things link together.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me to get out of bed every morning, is knowing that I have another day to creat something that does not yet exist, and once finished people can either learn from what I have done, or hopefully be entertained, depending on the type of project I am working on, be it Music, Writing, Filming, Editing, Building, or just thinking, which is my most valuable source of inspiration. Also I have to get out of bed because a cup of tea first thing is a must for me.
How do you approach cover design?
When I wanted to design and name the book 'ONE', I was half way through writing the book, when I made a decision to plant the seed in my head of needing a fitting title. I let it sit and fester in my mind for a few days to see what would eventually emerge without thinking about it or forcing it at all. Then out of the blue... ONE... there is the name of the book, it had just come to me. Then from that name which suited perfectly I could then build the design based upon it. I let things take their course and happen naturally. I did not force any designs or try to be overly rushed about the process. I think my design took me a total of one week, including a video advertisement that I also made to help the promotion of my book.
Describe your desk
My desk, Is not really a desk as such. It is in my home studio as I am a music producer/writer and it contains two very large monitors side by side with lots of gadgets in front of me. I do most of my work on my iPad, and then write it out again in the studio many many times.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in North London, UK and had a very colourful childhood with lots of amazing times and mischief. I can't say that this has influenced my writing as I have changed into such a different person from the one I was when I was younger.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I every wrote was when I was at school and aged 12. The teacher asked us to write a very short story and this could be real or fictitious. I remember starting to write about beings from other worlds whilst trying to understand plots and keeping the interest there for the reader, and I also remember being totally immersed in it and did not want the teacher to end the class. I do remember the teacher reading it and saying that what I had written was very creative. This year has been the first time I have written since then.
