Interview with Melissa Nicole Burnett

What are you working on next?
I published "When the Love is Gone", a Music from the Soul novel in the spring of 2012. The series has three other novels that I'm currently editing and planning to publish soon. After that series is complete, I plan to finish writing four other partially written novels that I've been working on, and publish them all as well.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love to read so I am open to reading any genre so long as it is interesting. I do not have a favorite author but I enjoy reading books by the following authors:

Michael Baisden, P.C. Cast, Zuri Day, Susan Fales-Hill, Emily Giffin, RM Johnson, Dwayne S. Joseph, Richelle Mead, Stephenie Meyers, Mary Monroe, Mary B. Morrison, Francis Ray, Sister Souljah, Blair Underwood and Carl Weber
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not writing I’m spending time with my husband and two teenage children, doing water aerobics and yoga, and I also work a full time job as a Regional Manager in the field of sales. I love playing “Just Dance” (any version) on Wii, taking pictures, attending music concerts, theatre shows, and going to theme/amusement parks. I also enjoy traveling, reading, listening and dancing to music, watching movies and spending time with extended family and close friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Fondly. In 2001 I lost my aunt to cancer. It was a very difficult time and I found myself writing about her life as a way of coping with her death. A year later I completed a novel on my late aunt’s life and found the writing process to be both therapeutic and enjoyable. It is because of her that I have found my passion to write and the determination to self-publish my first novel called, "When the Love is Gone".
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I have so many favorite books, but I can read the following five novels over and over:

Flowers in the Attic by the late V.C. Andrews
The Graysons of New Mexico series by the late Francis Ray
Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
Soulmates Dissipate by Mary B. Morrison

Why? Because I’m a paranormal fantasy, romance and drama loving junkie!
What do you read for pleasure?
I love to read so I am open to reading any genre for pleasure so long as it is interesting. I read between 35-40 books a year. I'm currently reading "Guilty Pleasures", Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My husband purchased me a Pandigital e-reader a couple of years ago for Christmas, and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet this past Christmas. I enjoy using both devices for my e-reading pleasure.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am active on Twitter, Facebook,,, Google+, Pinterest and I market my novel through all of these social media sites, through book club sites, book reviewers, author interviews,, as well as through my on website at I find these to be the most effective options for marketing my work.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Cleveland, OH and grew up in a suburb of Cleveland called Warrensville Heights. Warrensville was a very family-oriented and friendly community with a cute little park right next door to my home. I have good childhood memories from that neighborhood, and I wrote many screenplays and songs while living in my home. I had no idea that I wanted to be a writer back then I just knew that I loved to write about love and relationships. I wrote over 100 romance screenplays and love songs combined for my own personal enjoyment. I was very shy about my writings and wasn't comfortable sharing them. I feared that my privacy would be compromised if I left them behind when I moved to Georgia to go to school; so I threw them all away. I regret that mistake everyday.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first love song and romance screenplay in 1985, I was in the fifth grade. I wrote my first full length novel in 2001.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I wrote a series of four novels, under the title, Music from the Soul. The first installment from the series is "When the Love is Gone", published as an eBook May 3, 2012.

“Music from the Soul” series is a great story on life, love, pain, drama, and the importance of forgiveness, self-reflection and positive transformation. The story follows the life of a woman named Angie struggling to find peace and therapeutic healing after the death of her father and the downfall of her marriage. Angie is funny, witty and confrontational. My readers will appreciate her journey.

"When the Love is Gone" is a fiction/romance/drama novel and can be purchased online at, Apple iBookstore,,,,, and
