Interview with Cassidy Edwards

What are your five favorite books, and why?
Stepbrother Dearest, Okay, Pride & Prejudice, The Joy Luck Club, and The This Man Trilogy

Obviously, I enjoy a good sexy erotic/romance novel. I also really enjoy Pride & Prejudice because Jane Austen wrote so much about relationships, love, and (gasp!) sex in a way that was appropriate for that time. If you read between the unspoken lines, you can sense the tension and the pull between characters. I also love a great plot, which is why I connected so much with all the characters in The Joy Luck Club. Nothing says more about who we are then the story behind us.
What do you read for pleasure?
Magazines, Blogs, Whisper posts, novels, poetry, song lyrics... I love to read. I make time when I can and sometimes only read a few pages in a day, but I read as much as I can. It helps my mind take a break and escape to a place I can just be.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love to read from my iPhone. It's a handheld novel and travels with me everywhere I go. :)
Describe your desk
I have a very traditional wood desk. My iMac sits on it although I did most of my writing on my MacBook Pro in my bed. I even wrote a few pages here and there from my desk at work. Shhh!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in the South. We were one of very few non-Caucasian or non-Hispanic families. I felt a lot of teasing and bullying growing up which is why I think I empathize with anyone who feels left out. I also saw the way my parents loved each other and grew up really wanting that love someday. It's probably why I am a die-hard romantic.
When did you first start writing?
I've always written in my diary or in my journal. I just started writing erotica/romance this past year after my friend Christopher (yes, he is acknowledged in Honeymoon Trip) told me I had a knack for it and kicked the idea around with me.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I like to think that the story is one that all married couples probably question at some point in some degree during their lives together -- is this who I'm meant to be with? Do I love this person?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I am doing it to share my words, not really because I plan to quit my day job. Becoming an indie author and using Smashwords was a low-pressure easy way to do that.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Knowing someone reading might get some joy or pleasure from reading what I wrote.
What are you working on next?
The sequel to Honeymoon Trip... it's still thoughts right now, but I know that the story isn't done.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My job as a physician inspires me to get out of bed every day. Every patient I meet is the potential to help keep them healthy or help them get better if they're ill.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Watching my DVR shows, playing with my kids, reading on my iBooks app, or listening to music.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look for suggestions from other readers/friends. I follow my favorite authors on FB and when they suggest someone, I usually check it out!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I think the first story I ever wrote was about some ducklings following their mother in the rain.
What is your writing process?
I outline a little bit ahead of time, but otherwise, I let things come to me and occasionally have moments of inspiration. With Honeymoon Trip, I had a dream one night and that led to seventeen pages of work the next day.
How do you approach cover design?
I'm not artistic by any means, so I am so thankful that Smashwords has a list of great professional people to help. Vila Design (www.viladesign.net) designed my e-cover! She's amazing to work with!
