Interview with Aunt Judy

When did you first start writing?
I have been making up poems, songs and stories as long as I can remember. So I guess I started writing them as soon as I could - about 2nd grade.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My first book, CHICKENS ON THE GO! had developed a unique relationship with my fan base, and these wonderful people kept asking for more. Since the book had already addressed racial and cultural harmony, the next step seemed to be something about social acceptance. Hence, CHICKENS IN THE KNOW! came to be.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I find the greatest joy to be when I actually reach a child. To see the look on their faces when they "get it" and understand the true message in the books.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. It's really all about the children.
What are you working on next?
I have a third book in the works (CHICKENS GO GREEN), about the environment.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well, usually the need for a bathroom! :-)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to spend my time with friends, family and my cat Zulu.
Do you remember the first story that inspired you?
Yes, but it was a poem that my Daddy used to say:
I see birdie in the sky,
He dropped white stuff in my eye,
Me to baby, me no cry,
Me just glad that cows can't fly!
What is your writing process?
Ideas come into my head and they just won't go away until I write them down.
Describe your desk
My desk? Well it has a computer, many neat stacks of paper, lots of coloring markers and a large stuffed chicken.
