My 5 year old daughter, and the pitter patter of her little feet on the hardwood floor, is better than any alarm clock.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I like reading books by unknown authors. So many people have such amazing stories, and remarkable gifts that don't get the opportunity to be acknowledged.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I'm sure it was about a horse, and probably an ice cream cone. Those were my two favorite things as a kid.
What is your writing process?
Write like a crazy woman, try to decipher what it says, and then find a story in the midst of the legible words.
How do you approach cover design?
I imagine what a reader would want the cover to look like. My cover is rather literal, yet once you read the book you see that "Charlie's Pond" has multiple meanings.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Word-of-mouth has, and will always be the best marketing tool. As an author, you know that books are subjective. What one person may love, someone else may hate. However, as long as they are spreading the word, that's all that matters.
Describe your desk
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is inspired by a true story. It's raw and emotional, and I believe a large amount of people will be able to relate to the story. My goal is to be the voice for abuse victims, and hopefully let them know that they are not alone.
What are you working on next?
I'm actually working on a horse novel. It's about a teenage girl landing her first job in the Arabian horse show circuit. I'm sure the audience for it will be small, but Arabian horses were one of my first loves, so of course I had to write a book about them!
What is your goal for your books?
My main goal is to spread abuse awareness. I hope that it will help victims understand that they are not alone, and give them the strength to rise above their pasts. As a personal goal outside of helping victims, I would --as many authors do -- love to see my book made into a movie one day.
