Interview with C.S. Mae

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in California. All over California, really. I've lived in the bay area, the mountains, the desert, the central valley and way up north. I guess you could say that I'm a Cali girl, born and bred.
What this has done is made me want to write about California places. My first romance series takes place in the east bay of California. I'd also love to do a series that takes place in the mountains and one that takes place in the north state.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I started reading, at about 5. I wrote mostly short stories, but as a teen I started and abandoned several novel length stories.
I got distracted by college for a while, and took up writing again after graduation, as a way to entertain myself. Something just seemed to "stick" for me and with the advent of online publishing, I had to at least try it out.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm a girl. I love romances and sexytime stories. That's basically the story behind all of my books so far. hahaha

Right now I'm working on a story about two best friends who fall in love. It is one of my favorite tropes in romantic fiction. And what's more sexy than realizing the person who is your best friend is also your soul mate?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm a control freak, of course! I like choosing my own title, cover, content, and editor. If I want to set my book to free, I can. If I want to pull my books from every store, I can do that too. Fun times. :)

I don't have anything against the mainstream way of publishing, I just don't have time to tweak it to every single agent's specifications and then wait, wait, wait to get a response. To those who make the time, I suppose they deserve all the success they attain. ;)
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Well, let me just say, being able to set the book to free hasn't hurt me a bit! I also like that I can sign up with them and still have a really wide reach.

Very cool!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I guess I'm just easily entertained, but I love to make myself laugh. I love introducing the world to new characters and situations. I also like trying to convince people to try Kdramas! :)
What do your fans mean to you?
Any person, fan or otherwise, who reads my work means a lot to me. Reading a book is the gift of time and it's one that I always except gladly from any person who wants to take a chance on me!

Thanks readers!
What are you working on next?
A short, based on a side character from the book I'm working on right now. Her name is Teri and she's pretty cool.
Who are your favorite authors?
Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Rachel Gibson, Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Katie McCalister
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My job. hahahaha
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Watching Vampire Diaries or Kdramas while my husband pretends not to be watching with me. Reading pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I've been on a Georgette Heyer kick lately, so I've been rereading a lot of my favorites.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Goodreads! Really, honestly, I love them. Did you know that you can ask for recommendations of a certain kind of book and hundreds of people will answer you? How awesome is that??

I'm also a big fan of kindleboards.
