Interview with Cindy Strauch

What are your five favorite books, and why?
It is impossible for me to only pick 5 favorite books. Over my life time I have probably read thousands of books. I love a good series, my favorite being the In Death series by J.D. Robb along with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanowich. I am always excited to find a new series to read and then disappointed when I am finished with that series. Thanks to all the authors out there that continue to write so I can explore their books.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read historical romances for over 30 years but then fell in love with murder mysteries. I enjoy a book where I can relate to the main character be intrigued by the story and be surprised along the way.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Nook Color but downloaded the Nook app on my I-Pad and now use that. It was really hard for me to give up my paper books but once I did, I fell in love with ease of e-reading.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
This is my first novel and I am in the first weeks of this whole marketing world. I find it intimidating and overwhelming but am ready to dive in. I started with social media. I am lucky in the fact that my husband was born to be a salesman and he has tons of ideas for us to try and market Red Blooded Rookie.
Describe your desk
I have a build in desk in our office that I share with my husband that I use when paying bills, etc. I do all my writing on my laptop while watching TV at night with my husband.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Northeastern Colorado in a farming/ranching area. I lived in the Woodrow area until the 3rd grade when the family moved into Brush a town of roughly 4500 residents. I have lived in the same town my whole life and absolutely love it. We may not have all the fancy restaurants or activities of larger metro areas but there's nothing better than walking into your local grocery store and running into family and friends.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My book is about a single woman, Ashley Wright and the crazy events that lead her to join the police academy where her quiet life is turned into a nightmare filled with murdered women who could be her twins and the men who enter her life along the way. The story is filled with humor, suspense and a few twists that hopefully you will enjoy while reading Red Blooded Rookie.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My love of reading. I read at least one to two books a week. I have been married 38 years to an amazing man who finally said to me, "Why don't you write your own book." I have no experience in writing, no college degree, just the love of a good story. So I sat down one day and started writing. My life is blessed with a loving family who encouraged me every step of the way. It took years to finish due to a busy life but they always nudged me along, encouraging me to finish.
Who are your favorite authors?
There are SO MANY!!!! J.D. Robb, Janet Evanowich, C J Box, Joanne Fluke, Craig Johnson are just a few. I love discovering new authors while waiting for my favorite authors to write new books.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a very crafty person. I am a quilter and have made 100's of quilts and given away all but a few. I love to scrapbook and have filled many albums along with making all my own greeting and Christmas cards. But most of all I love spending time with family and friends whether it's camping, crafting, playing cards or just spending time with my four awesome grandchildren.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I always check for any new titles by my favorite authors then it's anything that catches my eye. Although I stay in the mystery-thriller category I love reading books by authors I may have never heard of. I have a whole new respect for them now that I have finally finished my own book and what it took to get it to you our customers.
