Interview with C. T. Raye

When did you first start writing?
I would say I was about ten years old when I wrote my first book. Although, it was very kiddish, my mom still has it, along with other books I wrote at the time. My family was amazed at the book and could not believe that I wrote it. Who knows I might edit it, and publish it!
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is based on a true story about a dog that I had growing up, the title of the book is 'Spud'. Growing up this dog was more than a friend to me and my brother. It is a very exciting write for me, because of the personal touch. That is not the only book I am working on at this time, as a writer you are constantly having ideas pop into your head, and you say, "that would make a great book."
What are you working on next?
A book called "Sam'son", it is based on the story of Samson in the Bible, with a very different twist. The book starts with King Sam that has ruled a very strict, moral kingdom. That is based on honor and living in a way that is honorable. When his son, who everyone calls Prince Sam'son is brought through the test of his life when his father dies tragically, and leaves a young son the kingdom. Will he uphold the same moral, and honorable law his father left him?
Who are your favorite authors?
Louis Lamour, John Erickson, Anthony O'Brian
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I have another day to live for God, and that my wife and kids are counting on 'daddy' to make a living.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Playing with my kids, hunting, fishing, with my family, or at church.
What is your writing process?
It starts with a thought, or idea; and then i always write it into a short story with chapters. From there I begin to go back and read over it incorporating more paragraphs into each chapter. Chopping away at the book, or adding to it, until I reach the desired result. Then it is passed among trusted people to be read and chopped at some more.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I-Phone 5s
What do you read for pleasure?
I do read some, but I mainly listen to audio books, or I have a great interest in Old Time Radio. Louis Lamour would be my most pleasurable read.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The price to publish is expensive, I always had the fear no-one would like the books that I write, and it would be a waste. When an author friend of mine told me about smash words I knew I had to give t a try.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to express my thoughts, and feelings. I enjoy it because I actually feel like I am apart of the book, and that I can control the outcome, whether tragidy or happiness.
