Interview with Anita Louise

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
My favorite sport is golf ... although I must admit it’s a bit of a “love/hate” relationship. I was introduced to the sport as a child by my father who was very good at the game. Since I was never what might be considered a “naturally athletic” person, it was a thrill to discover that golf was a sport at which I could do fairly well. It’s nice because (most of the time) I don’t have teammates who are depending on me to score the winning shot. It’s just me and a little white ball on a beautiful green expanse of grass ... except for those times when I’m in the rough ... or the sand ... or the trees ... or the water ... Hmmm, maybe I don’t like the game all that much after all. I REALLY love reading! Yeah, that's it. The truth is I spend a lot more time sitting and reading than I do playing golf (and it's much less frustrating!).
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have always been one to find an author I like and then read everything they've ever written. I still do that, but I today I also like to read works written by new authors - especially those who write in my favorite genre ... romance.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of different books. Of course, steamy romance is one of my favorites (which is probably why that is the genre I chose to write as well.) I also enjoy romantic suspense as long as it doesn't dwell on the gore sometimes associated with a mystery. Personal development and leadership books fill a large amount of space on my bookshelves as well. Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and John Maxwell are 3 of my favorites.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle and an Andriod tablet. I also read on my cell phone and my computer. Because it's always with me, my cell phone is the one I use the most.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I write a blog http://anitalouiseromance.com, and I am active on social media (primarily Facebook & Twitter). I also have been fortunate to connect with some great book bloggers and have had the opportunity to write guest blogs. From time to time, it's fun to do local book signings and actually meet some of my readers.
Describe your desk
Oh, gosh! You really wouldn't want to see my desk. It's a mess most of the time - filled with notes and book and office supplies, as well as a snack and something to drink. Periodically, I attempt to clean it up, but to be honest, it doesn't usually last very long.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a typical mid-western small town. My sister is only 1 year older than me and we are very close. We shared just about everything for most of our childhoods. We lost our mother when we were both pre-teens. It was a difficult time in our lives and we helped each other get through it together. As teens we argued a bit, but never anything that stopped us from loving each other unconditionally. Family dynamics have always intrigued me. The one thing I don't think I'll ever be able to understand is how family members can stop speaking to one another. They may not be perfect, but family is still family.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Being self-published is a privilege that was unavailable not so long ago. If a writer couldn't find someone to publish their books, it meant that the author's story remained unread. Today, we have the opportunity to write and put our words out there for readers to find. The challenge is that there are so many independent authors out there today, it can be difficult to find the one(s) that are the best fit and appeal to you as a reader. As an indie author, I have also had to learn how to be an indie marketer.
What do your fans mean to you?
Other than my family, my fans are the most important people in the world to me. I love to read their comments after someone has read one or more of my books. It's nice to know that I have fans who enjoy reading about the people who have come from my imagination. I hope my fans grow to love the characters in my books as much as I do.
What are you working on next?
Finishing the Adler series is my top priority right now. It generally takes me 3-4 months for each novel. At that rate, this project will keep me busy until late 2017 or maybe even into 2018. After that ... who knows. Maybe a spin off? From there, I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps a wedding trilogy, or I may delve into a romantic suspense series?

I am currently working on "The Things We Do For Love ~ Luke & Shelly" which will be Book 6 of The Adler Series. Luke and Shelly were featured quite a bit in Book 2 "Bad Case of Lovin' You ~ Brooke & Zack" and again in Book 5. Luke and Shelly have known each other since they were teenagers and Luke's had a crush on her all this time. Now he's a police officer and Shelly is a divorcee with a teenage daughter. Lots of interesting possibilities there, don't you think?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is my hope that my readers will walk away from reading one of my books feeling better about themselves and their ability to handle the challenges they experience in their own lives. It is a joy to find inspiration for my stories in every day life. I enjoy writing about the struggles and triumphs ... challenges and victories ... relationships—both good and not so wonderful, that we all encounter. One of my favorites sayings is, "It's not what happens to you, but how you deal with what happens to you that makes all the difference."
