Interview with Candy Ann

Who are your favorite authors?
Emily Dickinson, Otep Shamaya, Syvila Plath, Frederich Nietzsche
What motivated you to become an indie author?
What motivated me to become an indie author was "Otep Shamaya" ,from the band "Otep". I had seen she wrote poetry, and published a couple books of her own for the world to read and relate to. That is what inspired me to type up my poetry and to be confident enough to publish my first poetry book for the whole world to be able to purchase and read.
Do you remember the first poem you ever wrote?
My very first poem I had ever wrote was called, "Our Flag". I wrote it when I was about the age 10 years old.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first poem at age 10 years old. But I never got really into writing poetry until I had lost a piece of my heart in 2004. My stepfather had passed away and that had a lot to do with why I began to continuously write poetry. My grandmother use to purchase me blank hardcover journals to write my thoughts, feelings, and poetry into. I still have those books to this day.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on my second poetry book to be published. This book will have all of the poems from the last book and then some. Trying to make this second book of mine a lot better than my last book. But I have no idea when it will be published or even if I will publish it. I'm working on it , slowly but surely though!!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in my hometown; Akron, Ohio. Growing up, I was consonantly back and forth from the suburbs of Akron and the East side of the city. My mother raised me and my younger sister alone, after my stepfather had passed away December, 8, 2004. His death had became a complete shocker to me, made me really depressed and want to isolate myself from the world constantly.

While being isolated in my bedroom away from people, I would think and think about everything and anything. Driving myself insane, driving myself into a deeper darker depression mood. While thinking about everything and then some I had began to write down my feelings and thoughts onto paper. To let out anger, sadness, loneliness etc.
Describe your desk
My desk? HA-HA-HA I don't own a desk. I don't need a desk. All I need is my laptop, writing utensils, paper and my lap, sitting on the floor , on the bed, in a chair or sitting somewhere outside in nature. That is my desk.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not spending my time writing, I often enjoy a nice book to read that somebody else had written. Nice to see someone else's hard work for a change.
What do you read for pleasure?
I often enjoy reading books based upon spiritually such as witchcraft, voodoo, hoodoo, wiccan, and others. Expanding my horizon by reading about many different types of "new-age" religions and beliefs. This is something that I find quite fascinating.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have really enjoyed using twitter for a book marketing technique. I have gained many fans and potential fans from using twitter to promote my book I had published. I also post on Facebook, I have a page for my book and a page for me "Candy Ann".
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My e-reading device is currently just my cellphone. I didn't care for the iPad and tablet. But that's just me though probably. *Chuckle*
What's the story behind your latest book?
There is no set story for my latest book , "Love Lust and the Cold Hand of Suicide". I just collected a brief amount of my poems and I published a selective few. But the subjects of the poems are scattered.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I'd have to say the greatest joy of writing for me has to be the fact I can get feelings , thoughts and other crazy emotions out onto paper, from keyboard to computer ect. It just feels good to let it all out ya know??
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean alot to me! I love the fact that i can relate to them and they can relate to me with our mental health disorders and such.
Do you plan on publishing different genres of books or just poetry?
I don't want to publish only poetry books. I been thinking about self help books such as with webcam, maintaining a personal website or even the life of a Stripper and how to make good money doing it.
