Interview with Catherine L West

What motivated you to become an indie author?
My love for reading. I am a consummate story teller. Ever since I can remember, I have woven stories about animals. places and people.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating a world where my readers can get lost in and find enjoyment.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are literally everything. Without my fans I would not have an audience for my stories.
What are you working on next?
The next book in the Demon Rider's series. The guys are chomping at the bit to have their stories told.
Who are your favorite authors?
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lora Leigh, Laurann Dohner, Christine Feehan, Jenika Snow, Sam Crescent.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Oh gosh, to write these stories that keep me up at night. Seriously, these characters are bouncing around inside my head, wanting out!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read, paint and spend time with my husband, 16yr old dog, my sun conure and 7 sugar gliders.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have genres I enjoy reading so I definitely use tags to find them, sometimes they are recommended by friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes it was when I was in Middle School and about a young girl who finds a hidden door in her house. It was a mix of paranormal and suspense.
What is your writing process?
I am very spontaneous. Ideas come to me and I just write. I am not as organized as I should be with outlines and such, because I find it makes my stories stilted. I do have to go back and reread, edit and rewrite often because of this but to me it makes it better for the reader.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do, it was the Tarzan series by Edgar R. Borroughs. I was fascinated by his series.
How do you approach cover design?
I really need to get better at this. I try to find images that mean something to the book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Lora Leigh's breed series is one, Laurann Dohners whole collection of books, the NS, Cyborg, and Zorn series, I also love Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter novels. The imagination they have is incredible and their books draw you in so you are a part of their worlds and have a vested interest in the characters. This to me is the measure of great writers. I hope to do this with my books.
What do you read for pleasure?
Romance, Sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, contemporary, and some erotica.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My android phone as it's portable and always with me.
