Interview with Chad Strong

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually by scanning online sites for my preferred genres: westerns and fantasies, especially books by my favorite authors. And through recommendations by friends.
What is your writing process?
I usually begin with whatever inspired me - which could have been a phrase or a feeling, images in my head, or a particular scene. I just start writing, letting the story flow out onto the page (I write the first draft longhand) and see where it takes me. Along the way, I'll make notes as things occur to me, and once I get the first draft out I start going over it, looking for connections and themes, refining the plot, and really getting to know my characters. With each draft, the story becomes more and more what it means to be.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember a lot of stories that I really enjoyed as a child, but as I got into my early teens I was captured by anything by Jack London. As one with great respect for all animals and Nature herself, I latched onto The Call of the Wild and White Fang, and as a budding student of human nature, The Sea Wolf and To Build a Fire. I could go on and on. His stories never fail to move and inspire me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a day job. And I'm married to a wonderful woman. Together we have a bunch of furbabies - cats and dogs - that we're devoted to. I spent most of my life with horses, until recently, and hope to find a special equine friend again one day.
