Interview with Chelsea Callahan

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is like therapy for me. Even when I'm having my hardest of days I can open up my journal and it frees me. Poetry was my first love when it comes to writing, it is how I translate the deepest parts of me.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me. They have supported me through everything. I hope the understand how much I appreciate them.
What are you working on next?
I'm actually working on my first novel right now. Its been a work in progress for a few years. Its called Devereaux. Its about a girl who is pretty cynical about life and her jonrney discovering who she really is and that maybe life has good things to offer her: like love.
Who are your favorite authors?
Cassandra Clare, Kami Garcia, William Shakespeare, Taje Silverman, Catie Rosemurgy, Jane Austen, John Keats, Margaret Sthol, Melissa De La Cruz , J.K Rowling, George R. R. Martin and so many more
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When im not writing I spend my time watching movies reading books or catching up on tv. Sometimes even messing around on pinterest. I love surrounding myself with inspiring stories and ideas
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in fifth or sixth grade. We had a poetry project in class and I got really into it. So much so one of my teachers bought me a note pad and kept encouraging me to write. She is probably the reason I want to be a writer today. Ms. Aloi was a fantastic teacher. Cant thank her enough.
Describe your desk
My desk needs to be very clean for me to write. Just my computer, my journal, my buddha, a little toy tardis I got from barnes & noble, and a cup of pens.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My poetry collection really doesnt have a story to it but my novel im working on does. It was like more than five years ago that a mini series called Fallen aired on abc family. Between the things going on in my life then and the show I came up with a concept for another boom. It was the first idea that I ever considered publish worthy. So I started writing. I wrote ...and wrote...and wrote. The story now is almost nothing like the first version but it has my soul in every word. Ive worked very hard on it. I hope to have it out either the end of this year or next.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gives me a chance to get my work out there without worrying about rejection letters. It helps my success by giving me confidence in my own writing.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Every day has the potential for adventure.
