Interview with Cindy C Bennett

When did you first start writing?
I can't remember a time when I wasn't writing. It seems I always have. My sister found a story I'd written when I was about 11 - a love story, no less. While it's poorly written with a less-than-stellar plot line, it's proof that even before I knew how to write, I had a passion for it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When I first became an indie author, it was a fairly new concept. I really didn't know what I was doing, but I was impatient to get my book out there for the world to see, and indie was the way to do that. I've since been published both indie and traditionally. There are pros and cons to both, but my heart will always be an indie author's heart.
What is your writing process?
I sit down and write. It's as simple and complicated as that. I don't usually have much of a plan, just a general idea for a story, or maybe just a single scene I want to build a book around. That makes it difficult sometimes, because if I had an outline, I would know what I'm going to write each day when I open my latest document. But I also like the freedom of seeing just where my story is going to go. Sometimes it surprises me.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I adore my Kindle Paperwhite because I can read the screen anywhere, even in the bright sunlight. Honestly, I usually read on my phone's Kindle device more than anything simply because I happen to always have it with me.
Describe your desk
It strangely looks like a pair of legs. Perhaps because it's my lap.
What are you working on next?
I'm co-writing a book that's something I've never done before: Steampunk. It's been an exciting journey, though my co-writer (Jeffery Moore) is better at the descriptions that bring the era to life. It's a sort-of reverse Cinderella, where the beleaguered MC is male. I'm concurrently writing an original fairytale about a fairy who's wings have been stolen.
