Interview with Clementine Elin

Published 2014-01-29.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing I feel lets me express my emotions. It also allows me to let my creativity spark.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything! Every read, every review means something to me. I write for other people to enjoy and seeing how many people read my works just lifts my spirits that I am doing something to make other people happy.
What are you working on next?
I just released Rex which is part of The Tainted series. I am currently working on book two which takes two characters from that book and uses them as main characters. So far it is very steamy like Rex but has a different plot line entirely.
Who are your favorite authors?
Way too many to count. James Patterson, Scott Westerfeld, Cassandra Clark, Gabrielle Zevin and Brent Hartinger are the main ones.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well I work a day job so not sure if that counts as inspiring but AFTER my day job coming home and writing about the experiences I had through the day and the people I meet is inspiring. I don't work a glamorous job but I see a lot of different people and it makes the gears in my mind turn. They have an amazing personality, or their hair is a fabulous color, how could I incorporate that into a character?
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Day job. Playing with my puppy dog, Miss Bella Louise. Spending time with my wonderful husband.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Honestly, most of the eBooks I read are the freebies on Kindle. If I find them interesting then I proceed to buy the author's other works. I think that having a free book helps readers to see what kind of a reader you are.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was a terrible story, haha. Rex is actually my first story I finished though and I feel very proud. Only took me a few years.
What is your writing process?
Unlike many writers I just wing it. I don't make an outline, I constantly go back and make sure my facts are right and just keep writing. Having an outline I feel myself straying further and further with each sentence.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I remember reading is Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. I was young when I read it and it made me think differently about how I viewed the world. That book really inspired me to start writing about things that people question. Death, love, birth and so forth.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love reading romance, fantasy, sci-fi and GLBTQ books. I think that they all satisfy a little piece of me. Romance, I mean come on, everyone likes a steamy read. Fantasy always strikes me because I find myself asking questions. Sci-Fi also makes me ask questions but thinking about an alternate way of living is so fun. GLBTQ has always inspired me because I think that love is beautiful regardless of who it is with but there isn't a large market of GLBTQ books so it is fun to read.
