I first started writing when I was 9-years-old. Reading the Harry Potter books inspired me to become a writer. I loved being able to put my imagination down on paper, and share with everyone. Since then, I never stopped writing!
What's the story behind your latest book?
I grew up with anxiety, and I didn't start taking care of it until after I was 18-years-old. I constantly felt alone, and that no one would understand what I was going through. I decided to write the book about my anxiety so that no one else should have to feel alone, the way I did. I wanted people to be able to relate to my story, and feel like they are being supported.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After trying and failing to get a literary agent, I almost gave up on the idea of publishing my book. But then I found out that I could self-publish it! With self-publishing, I could make my book look the way I want it to, and market the way I want it too.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords enabled my book to come in different digital formats, rather than just the kindle format that KDP does. This makes it easier for more people to read my book because not everyone has a Kindle.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love to tell stories and to be able to share them with anyone and everyone!
What are you working on next?
My next projects include a potential musical and a couple more television spec scripts.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
A strong desire to accomplish my goals! I've been wanting to publish a book since I was 9-years-old, and the only way to achieve that goal was by getting out of bed! I am very passionate about writing, so I had to get out of bed in order to pursue that passion.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time with friends and family, playing with my dog, exercising, or doing yoga.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was when I was about 9-years-old. I wrote a story about a boy who took ballet lessons, but was too embarrassed for his friends at school to know because he was afraid of getting made fun of. The book was called "It's Okay to Be Different!" It was supposed to inspire other children to pursue their passions, regardless of what other people would think about it.
What is your writing process?
I like to sit alone in my room. I get the best work done when I don't have anyone distracting me. I need to get in a zone to be able to write and write and write. When I write, I try to continue for as long as I can, until I feel drained. I try not to take breaks so that I don't lose focus or forget about my ideas.
