Interview with Cory Dawn

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Flecks was the first story I ever wrote that wasn't in school. I honestly cannot remember a time when I wanted to sit down and write, but now I love it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Just like with the writing question, I don't remember much of what I read before my 20's. The book that got me into novels is The Hunger Games. Once I read those then I couldn't put down anything. Another book that got me really passionate about reading is Cinder. It just showed me how reading isn't boring, and it really does help when you get to pick the book you're about to spend time reading. I was never a reader in school. I hated it, and I rarely ever finished the book, actually I don't think I ever finished one in school. I didn't like being told what to read, and how to read it. I love being able to pick what I'm reading. I love being able to imagine how I think the characters would sound, look, how they carry themselves. Which is probably why I enjoy writing so much.
What is your writing process?
Basically I will put on random inspiring music, but most of the time I just end up singing along or typing the lyrics. I also require a cup of tea (Jasmine Green tea, with probably too much sugar). I've tried to write at cafe's but other people end up looking at me funny, because when I'm writing a scene I'm really into I end up mouthing what I'm writing. I'm sure I have scared a few people away from coffee shops.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love my Kobo Arc 7. It was my first e-reader. If I forget it then I use my iphone, but still the kobo app. It is the one I have found runs the most smoothly.
Describe your desk
My desk is everywhere. I take my laptop with me at all times when I'm working on a story I'm writing. The world is my desk. Typically I end up writing in my bed, or on my comfy chair.
When did you first start writing?
November 2013 for the NaNoWriMo. That's the month that changed so much for me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Watching my characters develop, grow, and change.
What do your fans mean to you?
I'll let you know when I have some. <3 I do think everyone who has purchased, and downloaded a preview Flecks is amazing.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My beautiful children. It would be nice if it wasn't at 6am everyday, but they mean the world to me.
What are you working on next?
I'll be working on the second part of Flecks which will be titled Sparks. I'm very excited to start this story and I can't wait to see where it goes.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Typically reading a novel from my stack, a comic book, watching a new movie, or one of my favourite TV shows, or most likely just hanging out with my kids.
